» Spotlight on Condition Survey Service
In 2004 Surrey County Council identified a need for accurate ‘data rich’ CAD floor plans for their educational properties. Spatial Intelligence was successful in winning a competitive tender and the project commenced in the summer of that year.
The project outline was to undertake a data cleanse exercise on properties surveyed at budget level by a previous supplier. Properties where changes had occurred underwent a full update to bring the CAD floor plans and data up to Surrey County Council’s exact requirements. This included an update of the impressive site at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School in Reigate.
A dedicated team of six Measured Survey Technicians were assigned to the project which encompassed three-hundred and seventy primary schools and fifty-two secondary schools and was successfully completed on time and to Surrey County Council’s complete satisfaction.
One of the essential requirements was that each room space was assigned a Category Code to define how that particular space was being used. Surrey County Council were instrumental in developing a recognized Category Code List that was utilized during this project and has since evolved into an industry standard adopted by many government authorities throughout the UK.
As part of the service Spatial Intelligence provided during the project, it was agreed that Spatial Intelligence would liaise closely with the schools Head Teachers. Spatial Intelligence provided literature and telephone support which enabled the Head Teachers to connect to their CAD floor plans via the Surrey County Council web portal. This proved an exciting and welcoming development in the working relationship between the local authority, head teachers and suppliers.
The success of this project has meant that SI has continued their working relationship with Surrey CC undertaking additional update projects as and when required.
